[Brief Introduction] Although I was born and raised in Kobe, Japan, I have lived in many places around the world, including the Central Valley and the Bay Area of California, South Carolina, Virginia, Michigan, Mississippi, Yokohama (Japan) and Melbourne (Australia). My area of specialty is topology, the branch of pure mathematics sometimes referred to as "rubber-band geometry." A topologist is sometimes defined as a person who cannot distinguish between a coffee mug and a doughnut.
