What is COC student email?

College of the Canyons student email is a free email service hosted by Microsoft Office 365 for Education (formerly Live@edu).

Important information from College of the Canyons will be directed to this email account. This includes all financial aid and registration communications, wait list notifications, class schedule or room changes, instructor emails and emergency information from the college.


What is the difference between Live@edu and Office 365 for Education?

It is a whole different system, but let’s not get technical. You can read more about the upgrade and how it affects you here: Office 365 for Education Upgrade.


Does Office 365 include calendar and contact management?

Yes, Office 365 includes: a calendar, address book, and calendar-sharing options.


What else do you get besides email and calendar?

Office 365 Web App: Online versions of MS Word, MS Excel, MS OneNote, and MS Powerpoint.
(Coming soon: Web conferencing, Instant messaging, File storage and sharing, and Team sites.)

Who will get student email?

All students now have a student email account. Log into My Canyons for more information.
NOTE: Email accounts are assigned during registration but will not be setup until students reset their MyCanyons password. Resetting MyCanyons password can be done here:

Can I forward COC email?

Yes, and it’s advised you forward your COC email to your personal email account that you check regularly. Note that although you have the ability to forward all college communication to another email account, in order to comply with FERPA, correspondence with the college not coming from your student email account will be disregarded.

What about my other Microsoft service accounts (i.e. Hotmail, MSN, Live, Outlook.com)?
There will be a conflict between my Microsoft services and MyCanyons email since both are hosted by Microsoft. To resolve the conflict, users will have to use two different browsers (not two different sessions/tabs/windows of the same browser). One for Microsoft services and the other for MyCanyons email. Alternatively, if you completely log out of one account, you can log in with the other account using the same browser.

What Browsers are Supported?

Can I use my smart phone to check my email?

What happens to my email account when I graduate?

After graduation from COC you will still have full use of Microsoft Office 365 services, but with advertisements included on the interface.

How much email storage space is provided?

25 GB is provided for email; in addition, you'll also get 7 GB of online cloud-based storage from Skydrive Pro (coming soon).

What type of support does Office 365 for Education offer for end users?

Common Troubleshooting Tips

How do I setup my student email account?

MyCanyons email accounts gets assigned during the registration process. Students will not be able to access it or receive emails until they have gone through the MyCanyons account setup and reset password process. How do I reset my email password?

If you need to reset your MyCanyons student email password, you can do so here: Email Account Setup/Password ResetMyCanyons Email Account Setup/Password Reset

What are the password criteria?

Please follow the criteria below to successfully reset your MyCanyons email password:

  • Use at least 8 and no more than 16 characters.
  • Use both uppercase and lowercase.
  • Use at least one number and/or symbol.
  • Do not use spaces, tabs, or line breaks.
  • Do not use any part of your MyCanyons username or anything to the left of the “@” symbol from your MyCanyons email address.
  • MyCanyons email setup/password reset can take up to 15 minutes to process. Do not reset more than one time every 15 minutes.

I can't sign in to Outlook Web App or Office 365 immediately after the upgrade.

First, make sure you are navigating to the correct URLs and signing in with your MyCanyons email address and Office 365 password. Here are the URLs that you can use:

I need access to my SkyDrive.

Because of the upgrade to Office 365 for Education, SkyDrive is now part of your personal account. College of the Canyons does not manage this account. You can access your personal Skydrive (no longer linked to the college) here: https://skydrive.live.com/

Username: MyCanyons email

Password: Your last password prior to the upgrade

Note: College of the Canyons cannot reset your password for your SkyDrive account. Once you’ve changed the password, you must contact Microsoft for assistance.
