Early Childhood Education
The Early Childhood Education (ECE) degree and certificate programs give students the opportunity to prepare for
careers in the field of early childhood education and/or transfer to a four-year university. Education and training
prepares students for entry into a variety of careers in the field. The field of early childhood education needs trained,
creative educators to provide high quality services to children and families in a variety of settings.
The Early Childhood Education program includes core courses in
child development and electives from other departments.
The purposes includes:
1) educating students in development of the young child;
2) preparing candidates for Child Development permits
(awarded by the State Commission of Teacher Preparation and Licensing, Child Development Division);
3) providing a basis for further study (transfer) and preparation of teacher candidates; and
4) preparing students for work with children in a variety of community settings.
